Sustainable packaging and cross channel shopping will be top-of-mind for shoppers post-pandemic. YPulse’s sustainability data shows that 57% of Gen Z and 47% of Millennials feel brands should be developing more eco-friendly packaging. Now, a new study from Dotcom Distribution signals that sustainable packaging is not only preferred, it’s likely to influence an online shopper’s decision to return as a customer. Compared to other environmental factors, including fuel efficiency and product ingredients, sustainable packaging was noted as the “most attractive feature” by shoppers in the study. The pandemic has also made them more inclined to try new brands—especially when it comes to apparel: of the 65% of respondents who bought something from a company they’d never shopped before, 25% purchased clothing. While online shopping increased during the pandemic, the survey highlights that consumers enjoy having cross-channel shopping options, and will continue to shop online, in-store, and choose curbside pick-up post-pandemic.
