But rather than making a living through views, merchandising could be the next big thing for young YouTube stars. YouTubers have been branching into business offline, and branded merch could be the next major focus. Ryan Kaji of “Ryan’s World” is experiencing incredible success from licensing deals with Walmart, Amazon, and now Skechers USA Inc. for a new footwear line. According to PocketWatch Inc.—the company that handles licensing deals for the Kaji family—”Ryan’s World” branding produced more than $250 million in revenue in 2020. The success of Kaji’s branding deals exceeded his YouTube ad revenue as a result. After three years of Kaji making more than any other YouTuber, brands may want to take note as licensing deals become the focus for young stars. (Medium)
