Young adult and teen romcom franchises are Netflix’s biggest hits. After a lull in teen movie-making, Netflix revived the genre in 2018 with titles like The Kissing Booth and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and it seems like they made the right choice. The sequel to the latter was one of the most-anticipated releases on last year, and the release of its final installment To All the Boys: Always and Forever, makes it “the first completed major film series built for streaming.” During its opening weekend, the movie took the top spot in the U.S. on the streamer’s Top 10 feature. While Netflix’s superhero and monster flicks like Bright have fared well with viewers and have sequels in the development pipeline, it’s their YA sequels like The Kissing Booth and The Princess Switch that have moved forward much quicker.
