Holiday decoration sales are booming this year. During COVID, Christmas enthusiasts are choosing to redirect energy “they would usually spend on parties, meals, and frantic shopping trips to putting up over-the-top decorations and light displays.” One Ace Hardware reports a 45% increase in light sales and 42% increase in wreath and garland sales compared to last year. Activities like gingerbread-house building and garland stringing to capture a “Norman Rockwell-esque” and “highly Instagrammable” Christmas are also replacing those in-person celebrations. YPulse’s Winter Holiday Plans report found that 60% of 13-39-year-olds say they are going to put more effort into decorating their home for the holidays this year. (Vox)
