Coronavirus will have an everlasting impact on the college experiences. As the COVID crisis continues to impact Gen Z’s major milestones this year, it’s already altering the future of college experiences for many prospective students. According to a survey from ed-tech company Cirkled In, more than 25% of students said COVID will affect their ultimate college choice. With schools shut down, on-campus tours, admitted student events, and the chance to get an in-person feel for the school have transitioned to virtual tours and Zoom sessions, which can only do so much to help potential students become acquainted with the university. Because of increased financial strain, many are already opting for a gap year, a later transfer date, or a college closer to home. (Vox, NYTimes)
