New apps are matching people who want to skip romance and just have a baby together. Millennials without children tell YPulse they want to start having kids at 32-year-olds on average, and while many start to enter relationships in their mid-20s, roughly 40% of Millennials remain single from 25-to-34-years-old. With this extended phase of singledom some find “the idealized version of a man and woman falling in love shortsighted,” and want to become parents without waiting for a romantic partner. That’s where apps like PollenTree and Modamily come in. The services help people who just want to have a baby meet and figure out if they’re a good fit as parents, as well as determining logistical and legal issues around custody—which can take months.
