Entertainment companies spent a whopping $121 billion on original content in 2019. Spending on original content has exploded as the streaming wars rage, and according to the Variety Intelligence Platform, five mega companies—AT&T’s HBO, ViacomCBS, Netflix, Comcast, and Disney—accounted for 72.5% of the total spend. Disney was the largest content spender with the launch of Disney+, which has paid off: the platform has quickly become a favorite among young consumers. YPulse has also found that 66% of 13-37-year-olds have started to use a streaming service to watch a specific show—so all the investment in original content is vital. (Variety)
