Elon Musk says he’s eliminating bots on Twitter, but other experts disagree. The social media app’s CEO has promised users that 90% of “scams and spam” have been resolved, but researchers are finding that bots continue to be a problem on Twitter. The claim from Musk turns out to be vague, since “there is no universal definition of fake or spam accounts, and determining a precise, authoritative number on a platform as big as Twitter is difficult.” Researchers also found that the problem can never be entirely eradicated, and a cybersecurity firm recently discovered that the overall percentage of “bot traffic” on Twitter stayed the same from last year, despite Musk’s comments. Though YPulse data shows more than three in 10 young people think Musk has made the platform worse, only 5% of 13-39-year-old Twitter users said they would or have stopped using the platform since Musk bought it.
