Artificial intelligence bots are now giving people eyelash extensions. LUUM, a California-based beauty salon, is one of the first predominantly AI-run eyelash centers where clients come to get their lash extensions done by a robot rather than a human, using a technology called computer vision. However, with the salon going viral on TikTok, it has raised many concerns over the tech replacing human jobs. Nonetheless, the studio’s CEO/co-founder defended the use of AI: “We want this to be a labor-saving device for large start-ups so that they can do three times the appointments in a day that they can do now.” YPulse research shows that several of young consumers’ top answers to what they first think of when hearing “AI” has to do with its capabilities, and their sixth most popular answer relates to AI as “A potential replacement for humans in various aspects of life (e.g. workforce, decision-making, etc.).” (Washington Post)
