Social media influences the majority of young consumers’ purchasing decisions. Data from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) revealed that 85% of Gen Z respondents said that “social media influences their purchasing choices.” Additionally, TikTok and Instagram were the platforms where 45% of Gen Z’s shopping habits were influenced most. This serves as a huge reminder to retailers that increasing their social media presence can (and will) greatly benefit their sales with this gen. The president/CEO of the ICSC explained that this data is significant for companies since Gen Z’s “habits will influence retail strategy, marketplace makeup and broader economic trends for years to come.” YPulse has long said that social media presence is everything to this gen, but they tell us they specifically want to see content from brands that blends in with their feed.
