Netflix is creating an online hub for fake programming based on real TV shows and movies. Known as Nestflix, the platform is bringing “fake” TV shows and movies (a.k.a. stories that were created as gags or plotlines in real programming like 30 Rock and Entourage) to life in the brand’s latest effort to strengthen its appeal as a trendsetter in the streaming industry. Fake shows like Aquaman from Entourage, The Rural Juror, Milf Island, and Leap Dave Williams from 30 Rock, and Angels with Filthy Souls from Home Alone will be part of Nestflix’s programming. The platform mimics the original streaming site, and is “wonderfully detailed” with a search function, cast lists for each project, and information on what real show or movies the fake programming originally appears in, and Nestflix is currently available for browsing so fans can get a sneak peek at the fake shows heading to the platform. YPulse research shows that Netflix is the number one streaming platform that 13-39-year-olds have downloaded to watch a specific show, and Nestflix is well set up to carry on the OG streaming service’s legacy.
