Home Depot “quietly” brought livestreams to customers to boost sales during the pandemic.

Apr 14 2021

Home Depot “quietly” brought livestreams to customers to boost sales during the pandemic. When lockdowns happened last spring, Home Depot started turning their in-person workshops into livestreams, shifting from hosting five in-store workshops per month to approximately 40 streaming shows every month. According to the company, their DIY and Homeowner 101 shows averaged “hundreds of participants.” While the streams are neither sponsored or shoppable, the associates who host the show drop product links in the Q&A chat whenever customers ask. They also offer attendees 15% off coupons for online purchases. According to Home Depot, they saw a surge in sales especially as quarantined consumers turned to home improvement projects: Online and app sales increased 86% last year compared to 2019. (Digiday)
