From baking to video games, social networking has gone niche during COVID. While social media usage has spiked during the pandemic, some young consumers are turning to “niche” platforms instead of the much broader platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Apps like Strava have become popular with fitness and running enthusiasts, while Discord (whose sign-up rate is up 200% since the start of the pandemic) has become a haven for gamers to play together, and bakers have gone on BakeSpace to share and discuss recipes especially since stress baking has become a food quarantine trend.
