Netflix is resisting ad-supported streaming—despite pressure from marketers. Brands want the streamer to take their money, but so far, Netflix is staying strong and refusing to start an ad-supported tier. From competition from rival streaming services to the risk of compromising consumers’ trust on data privacy, the company has its reasons for not wading into targeted advertising—but of course, marketers think they’re making a “mistake.” While many young consumers stream to avoid ads, there are likely still some that would pay for the service at a lower price point. However, Netflix has been advertising in other creative ways—through innovative brand partnerships. (Adweek)
