The hair accessory has become a desired display of affection for young boys who get a scrunchie from a girl they have a crush on and in return, if a guy likes her, they can give her their hoodie. The trend is supposedly inspired from books and the Netflix teen romcom To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before where the main character snags a scrunchie from his crush’s hair and puts it on his own wrist. The hashtag #Savethescrunchies even trended briefly this fall, and stores selling scrunchies have been making money off the trend. (NYTimes)
