Tech giants’ interest in sports broadcasting is slowing down. YPulse has tracked the shift in young consumers’ sports viewing from live TV to streaming, search engines, and social media. Two years ago, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube were fighting over who would get to stream Thursday night football games, but the hype has died down. Many are discovering that the expensive costs for short-term programming isn’t bringing the audiences they hoped for, and long-form game broadcasts on social aren’t engaging users, who are more likely to exhibit “shallow consumption.”  (Digiday)
