Starbucks is betting on blue drinks and kidult merch to win over young customers this summer. Starbucks recently announced two new coconut flavored drinks with blue spirulina and launched a limited-edition collab with Miffy—who we know Gen Z loves. The iconic Dutch bunny character has sold 90M children’s books worldwide, which carries a nostalgic factor even for Gen Z that didn’t grow up with her, especially now that she’s everywhere. The merch includes a lineup of plushies, tumblers, cold cups, and tote bags, tapping into all the ways Gen Z shows off their brand fandom. With rivals like Dunkin’, Dutch Bros, and now McDonald’s courting young consumers with fun summer menus and accessories, Starbucks is hoping the combination of visually-appealing drinks and limited-edition collabs will make them young people’s go-to daily treat destination again.
