Palworld has sold over 5M copies within just three days of its early access launch. Despite being released by a relatively unknown developer, the game’s success is impressive: it’s currently the most played game on Steam. However, the game is creating some controversy surrounding its concept, as people are pointing out the similarities between Palworld’s pals and the Pokémon franchise. There have also been claims that the game was created with artificial intelligence, but there is no evidence to support this claim yet. The game’s popularity, regardless of these pushbacks, can be attributed to its unique combination of game mechanics such as survival, crafting, and monster-catching, which appeals to gamers craving a fresh experience during a release drought. While Pokémon doesn’t currently rank as a favorite game for Gen Z and Millennials, shooters and open world are two of their three favorite kinds of games—which Palworld combines. (The Verge)
