A new study finds that ChatGPT is outperforming students in homework assignments. A paper published in the Scientific Reports journal found that the artificial intelligence language model worked closely to or better than the level of college students on various writing assignments. And furthermore, GPTZero and OpenAI’s AI classifier (which are designed to catch AI text) were “inadequate” at deciphering what was written by a bot versus a human. As it seems the technology poses a threat to the future of education, the authors of the study say that the “result indicates a clear need to take ‘AI-plagiarism’ seriously.” YPulse’s AI Unpacked trend report shows that more than two in five middle and high school students have used an AI chatbot, and 41% of those students say they’ve used it to help them write an essay.
