Netflix is set to release a K-Pop girl group competition show next year. The streaming service’s upcoming docuseries titled The Debut: Dream Academy will feature record labels HYBE and Geffen auditioning 20 contestants from around the world. Ranging from 14-21-years-old, the contestants will go through a K-Pop idol training process in hopes of becoming the next global girl group. This collaboration between an American and K-Pop record label is historic, and as the Interscope Geffen A&M chairman and CEO says, it “is truly special and will bring to life a first-of-its-kind experience in music.” YPulse has previously discussed how K-Pop has become mainstream amongst younger generations, with one in five young people (and nearly a third of Gen Z) saying they follow K-Pop trends.
