The NFL’s latest campaign is poking fun at rumors of scripted games.“You Can’t Make This Stuff Up” launched last week starring comedian Keegan-Michael Key as well as popular NFL players like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Fields, and Dexter Lawrence. The inspiration behind the campaign was to address pop-culture speculations over whether or not the league’s games are scripted in a comedic way, calling the league a destination for entertainment that’s “better than fiction,” while simultaneously promoting the 2023 NFL season. The ads will be airing through social and digital channels, as well as TV and features Key acting as the director of a fictional table read with players brainstorming “potential plot twists” for the upcoming season. YPulse research shows that football is the number two ranked sport that Gen Z and Millennials watched this past year. (Marketing Dive)
