TikTok is forming a youth council to improve app safety for teen users. This week, the social media platform announced via a blog post that they are creating a council of teenagers to develop safety tools for users. The purpose of this group is to provide a new perspective to the company about user experience from the young point of view. Although the council is still in the works, TikTok’s global head of product policy says that “our goal is that we keep designing really effective products and policies that protect young people but also enable them to find a voice.” This shift of focus towards youth safety is vital for the social media app, since YPulse research shows that Gen Z TikTok use more than any other social media platform, with nearly three quarters of the gen on the app. (NBC News)
