Gen Z is getting closer to wildlife through screens.

Gen Z is getting closer to wildlife through screens. We all know the internet loves Alaska’s Fat Bear Week, but the impact of nature livestreams as a form of education and accessible entrance to conservation for Gen Z is bigger than you might know. Livestreams from trail cams, animal sanctuaries, and even rangers are creating online communities that become invested in protecting wildlife and their habitats. Young people hear constant talk of irreversible climate change, but this interaction can feel more hopeful and exciting. It’s also easily discoverable, thanks to channels on Twitch and social media accounts that pull in millions of views. It may not be everyone’s idea of “connecting with nature,” but it’s the reality of where Gen Z spends their time, and some conservationists feel it’s the best way to meet new supporters where they are. For young people engaging with the content and getting opportunities to make it themselves, it can be an informing interest in their political views and educational goals. (CNN)
