The U.K. National Health Service launched a TikTok to combat misinformation. Health misinformation is rife on social media, thanks in part to creators who spread false claims about unverified treatments or discourage others from using conventional medicine. To help young people parse through the noise, the NHS created a TikTok profile where real doctors explain things like vaccinations and seasonal health advice, often with Gen Z humor. Young people already use AI and social media for health advice and as that is only predicted to become more mainstream despite the risks, health officials will have to meet young people where they’re at.
