Even though Gen Z is most worried about AI, they’ve used chatbots more than any other age group. According to new data from Pew Research Center, 48% of 18-29-year-olds say they believe AI’s impacts on society will be negative, compared to the 40% American average. Another 37% say the impact it has on them personally will be negative, which was on par with the overall population. Still, 66% of Gen Z says they have used a chatbot, up from 55% in 2024—more than any other age group. YPulse data shows even more—almost all—Gen Z use AI in 2026: 87% of 13-24-year-olds at least occasionally, with 30% of teens and 23% of young adults using AI tools and chatbots daily. However, it doesn’t belong everywhere in their eyes: many young people are pushing back against AI in the workplace and some students booed speakers who praised AI in commencement speeches for its impacts on education and jobs.
