Gen Z is driving a surge in popularity for non-carbonated alcoholic beverages. While seltzers had their moment (with Millennials especially), young consumers are moving on from fizzy drinks and choosing flat beverages, like Surfside and BeatBox. These tea-based drinks especially might seem like the “healthier” alternative to seltzers. Once-popular malt seltzers like White Claw have seen purchase volume drops over the past year, while ready-to-drink premixed cocktails like Surfside, Sun Cruiser, BuzzBallz, and Cutwater Spirits have seen major growth. Older gens have proved to be more loyal to their favorite beer or cocktail, while Gen Z drinkers like to experiment with what’s new on the market. Non-alcoholic beverage brands aren’t seeing the same downward shift, but some are expanding into fizz-free products anyway to get ahead of the curve. For example, Celsius recently introduced non-carbonated energy drinks, driven by Gen Z’s interest in bubble-free, functional beverages. (CNBC)
