Gen Z graduates are booing commencement speakers who mention AI. At the University of Arizona, University of Central Florida, and Middle Tennessee State University, students have booed while commencement speakers including Google’s former CEO have advised embracing AI as a fact of the future. Clearly, Gen Z does not have as positive a view on AI’s impact on their future jobs. YPulse research shows more than half of 18-24-year-olds think AI is interfering with their career path, rather than carving a new one for them. On the day that marks their foray outside academia and into a shaky job market, it should probably not come as a surprise they aren’t excited to think about AI—though their reactions did surprise some speakers. (NY Mag)
