Gen Z in the U.S. are less patriotic than older gens.

May 13 2026

Gen Z in the U.S. are less patriotic than older gens. According to a recent survey from Deseret News/Hinckley Institute, 56% of 18-34-year-olds are somewhat or very patriotic, compared to 69% of all U.S. registered voters. But it’s not only Gen Z’s patriotism that’s waning; each generation is less patriotic than the one that came before. This generational difference has to do with changes in American history curriculum at schools, more intense political polarization, and an overall sense of disillusionment about the state of government. YPulse’s 2024 Election Report found 64% of 13-39-year-olds agree, “Politicians don’t focus on the issues that I care about,” likely contributing to fewer having a positive outlook on the country.
