Mukbangs are giving huge payouts for Gen Z women. Content creators like Enid Frances, Jenny Ng, and Audrey Rose eating huge servings, sometimes tables worth, of food on camera have generated massive followings—to the point where they can pay off their college tuition, support their families, and even replace their original career plans. Many of their posts receive millions of views, which has lead to partnerships with companies like DoorDash and Uber Eats and sometimes making close to $10K a month, giving them more financial security than they would have following a traditional career path. But between getting ready to film and eating large portions of food, they say the work can be strenuous and demanding. Among the millions of global young viewers, though, some find that mukbangs can offer a sense of comfort when they’re scrolling on their phones late at night or having a meal by themselves, beating the loneliness over a pseudo-shared meal.
