Gen Z’s latest solution to doomscrolling is “analog bags.” It’s no secret that young people are looking for ways to get offline and feel more present IRL. YPulse has told you that Gen Z’s affinity with “analog” experiences has manifested in things like starting “snail mail clubs” and group crocheting and jewelry-making activities. Another trend on social media is young people—especially young women—packing “analog bags,” which they fill with screen-free activities like journals, paint, crocheting materials, and books for their days or nights out. Ironically, they’re of course taking to social media to post about their “analog bags” and inspire others to pack their own. And some of those posts on TikTok have amassed tens of thousands of likes. While the contents of an “analog bag” might not seem entirely groundbreaking, the niche obsession is helping young people prioritize mindfulness and break free from the doomscroll loop. (NPR)
