Move over Millennial duck lips, Gen Z is pouting for pictures. The new generational “photo face” is nearly a frown, made by emphasizing the top lip over a tucked bottom lip, and young women are doing it everywhere from TikTok to red carpets. Some say the look is an intentional contrast to the 2010s “Instagram face,” which was all exaggerated volume and deep contour made for a ring light selfie. Others say it’s an intentionally “disaffected” look meant to diverge from the clear effort put into those heavily-posed photos. And as yet another layer of distancing from Millennial vibes, it may be a result of trying to seem anything but cringe by “not” putting in effort. Gen Z is more about the could-be-natural, manufactured-candid look in pictures that exudes nonchalance, the irony is, of course, they’re posted with careful consideration. (Yahoo, Washington Post)
