Recording smart glasses are making students feel watched.

Feb 18 2026

Recording smart glasses are making students feel watched. Meta has recently re-directed focus from the Metaverse to wearable tech, thanks to their Ray Ban glasses taking off in popularity. But as popular content tools, they’re often used to take videos or pictures of strangers who don’t know they’re being recorded. The glasses are also causing problems in classrooms, from cheating to the simple fear of being recorded. YPulse has explained before how Gen Z is afraid of looking cringe in public, particularly because of the potential to end up in a viral post. In class, students worry about how they sound in discussions, and across campus, fear becoming the subject of judgement online, and feel they have less and less privacy.(Though some now find Meta glasses wearers to be the cringe ones.)
