TikTok just launched its own microdrama app. Just days after YPulse reported on Hollywood’s recent microdrama investments, TikTok quietly launched PineDrama for their own fictional series in one-minute episodes. (Only in the U.S. and Brazil, for now.) It features soapy romances and thrillers in the exact formula that’s made ReelShort and DramaBox hit accounts on TikTok. But while those show through its “TikTok Minis” section, the dedicated app lets viewers browse by genre, track watch history, and binge without any algorithmic interruptions—like any classic TV streamer. The microdrama industry is projected to have a value of $26B by 2030 and YPulse data already shows 65% of 18-24-year-olds say they’re interested in watching shows in short clips on social media, so media brands are racing to keep up.
