Adults want cellphones out of schools. Teens? Not so much. New Pew Research data shows a major disconnect among adults and teens: 74% of U.S. adults support banning cellphones during class, but only 41% of teens agree. But that’s only during class; when it comes to full-day bans including lunch and between classes, support among teens drops to just 17%, compared to 44% of adults. Teens may understand the downsides of screen time, but they’re not ready to give up the connection they’re used to. Even though phones can be a distraction, students are constantly connecting socially over text or social messaging with friends even within the same school. (Pew Research)
