Gen Z is “zebra striping” their nights out to skip hangovers.

Jan 06 2026

Gen Z is “zebra striping” their nights out to skip hangovers. According to Tastewise data, searches for “zebra striping” are up 30% year-over-year, along with “no hangover Gen Z” surging over 101%. The strategy of alternating alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks isn’t new, but the popularity and the term are definitely on the rise. It’s part of a broader shift in how young consumers approach nightlife: they do want to drink, but they’re fed up with the next-day fallout and are disinterested in losing all control. Alongside self-monitoring, THC, CBD, and adaptogen-infused drinks are filling the gap, offering a buzz without the hangover. For Gen Z, vices are about weighing what feels worth it: YPulse data shows 50% of 18-24-year-olds would rather experiment with weed than alcohol, viewing it as the healthier option.
