The Stranger Things finale aired, but TikTok believes the story isn’t over yet. Despite the Duffer brothers confirming the Season 5 finale is actually the end, a viral theory dubbed “Conformity Gate” claims the “real” ending episode is dropping January 7. Some fans suggest nearly half the season was simply an illusion, and creators are finding “evidence” everywhere. The hunt for clues ranges from analyzing the graduation scene symbolism to searching “fake ending” on Netflix which apparently only surfaces Stranger Things. A petition has surfaced demanding “unseen footage” and so far, has 388K signatures. And while it might not be what they’re looking for, a filming documentary is on its way to Netflix Jan. 12, and an animated series is on the horizon, too. Whether it’s denial or dedication, the continued viral moment just proves how social media keeps fandoms alive between—and even after—seasons end. (Dexerto)
