Nearly half of Gen Z and Millennial men say they’d overdraft their bank account to pay for a date. According to a Credit One Bank study, 46% of young men (18-39-years-old) would go into debt for romance, compared to just 28% of women. It’s a gender gap rooted in persistent social norms, but young men still clearly feel pressure to demonstrate romantic commitment through footing the bill. But especially now, dating isn’t cheap: a 2025 BMO study found the “all in” cost of a date (factoring in grooming, gas, and the outing itself) is close to $170 for just one person. Over a year, single Americans overall spend an average of $2.3K on dating. YPulse data shows the large majority of 20-29-year-olds say dating is more difficult than in the past—and the price tag certainly isn’t helping. (Moneywise)
