The cryptic scenarios involving “Y/N” and “the CEO” flooding TikTok borrows directly from classic fanfiction tropes, where Y/N stands for “your name,” a placeholder inviting readers to insert themselves as the main character. The CEO character—whether depicting a fictional character or real person in another fictional world—is always the brooding, controlling love interest straight out of a Wattpad fantasy. The viral videos feature exaggerated scenarios from another POV, like kitchen staff watching a billionaire order the entire menu because Y/N couldn’t decide, or coworkers pretending not to notice the tension between the two in a meeting. It’s campy, self-aware, and deeply niche, making it another Gen Z IYKYK moment. If viewers didn’t grow up reading fan fiction, the humor might not land.
