Starbucks severely underestimated Gen Z’s thirst for their Bearista collectibles. The bear-shaped 20-ounce holiday cup sold out nationwide within hours last Thursday, to widespread disappointment. Customers flooded social media, saying they showed up as early as 4am or visited multiple locations with no luck, and felt the hype built for this launch did not match its execution. Now, resellers are listing the $29.95 cups for up to $450 on eBay and Mercari, as often happens with limited-edition drops. Starbucks issued an apology for the disappointment, despite shipping “more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season.” On socials, creators are making up for it by DIY-ing their own versions using bear-shaped honey containers. And even brands like ALDI are leaning in by using it to hype their own sugar cookie cup drop coming this week.(E! News)
