Young women on TikTok “unfortunately do love” the things that define them.

Young women on TikTok “unfortunately do love” the things that define them. In something of a post-cringe moment, Gen Z girls are posting lists of the things they love, “unfortunately” only because of how others might see it. But the things they list aren’t often taboo the way it might first imply. Instead, they “unfortunately” love things that are mostly judged for being “basic,” like Diet Coke, ordering things online, overpriced lip gloss, or outfit repeating. Some are more “unfortunate” loves, making it a no-shame moment, like holding grudges, cancelling plans, and spending over saving. It’s silly and lighthearted, but is highly relatable to viewers, creating a sense of connection and maybe even some more self-confidence in what others might call “cringe.” (Her Campus)
