Is Gen Z really planning lower holiday budgets in 2025?According to a survey by PwC, 17-28-year-olds plan to reduce their holiday budget by 23% this year—more than Millennials or Gen X, whose planned budget is the same as in 2024. The young gen is having a tough time as they come into adulthood, between the job market, anxieties about tariffs, and more. Many note the gen prefers to spend their money on experiences, despite the cost, year-round. However, Gen Z is more than happy to budget shop, between dupes, thrifting, and mass merch, meaning a small budget can still cover all their bases. And in contrast, YPulse’s Holiday Shopping Plans data shows 18-24-year-olds actually plan to spend more on gifts for others in 2025 than in 2024, and less on gifts for themselves, which likely reflects increasing prices.
