“Job hugging,” a.k.a. staying where they are, is reportedly the latest Gen Z work trend.

Aug 22 2025

“Job hugging,” a.k.a. staying where they are, is reportedly the latest Gen Z work trend. Instead of hopping from job to job like they became known for during the Great Resignation, more young workers are holding tightly to their current roles right now. Experts link this shift to AI taking over entry-level positions, shaky markets, and widespread layoffs, making whichever role they have now more valuable than ever. Some recruiters say with fewer opportunities on the horizon, many Gen Z employees say they plan to stick it out where they are, only leaving “if they are miserable in their current role or are offered a significant compensation increase.” Still, YPulse data has shown before that viral Gen Z work trends, from “rage applying” to “quiet quitting” aren’t always as popular as they’re made out to be, and “job hugging” could be more of a new name than a new trend.
