Young people have found their new favorite movie meme: the Weapons run. YPulse data shows roughly a quarter of teens and young adults are visiting movie theaters monthly, and 21% of 18-24-year-olds specifically go weekly or more—so, they’re of course creating memes based of their favorite scenes of trending films. Following the recent release of the “horror hit” Weapons, young people have started recording themselves running with their arms out wide to audio from the movie trailer. The videos mirror the pivotal scene in the film where “every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and never came back.” Young TikTok users are posting videos of them running down theater isles, on treadmills, and anywhere they can with airplane arms, pulling in thousands of views, while celebs and influencers alike have also hopped on the trend. Even drag queen Trixie Mattel posted a video mimicking the movie with the caption “heading to the gig last night,” which has over 260K likes. (Mashable)
