TikTok launched “TikTok Pro” in Europe. This new, simplified version of the app—available in Germany, Portugal, and Spain—removes ads, livestreams, and shopping to focus solely on video content, just how the app began. It also features the “Sunshine” program, which encourages users to support charities by turning their interactions into donations. While the videos are the same as on the main app, TikTok Pro aims to attract new users by offering a less cluttered experience. But it’s also clearly helping TikTok navigate growing regulatory pressures in Europe. Despite—or perhaps because of—its huge popularity, concerns remain around content moderation, user safety, and data privacy, as well as scrutiny over how the app influences younger audiences and complies with the EU’s Digital Services Act.
