More Gen Z couples are reportedly opting for “quiet relationships.”

Jul 28 2025

More Gen Z couples are reportedly opting for “quiet relationships.” According to YPulse, 55% of 13-39-year-olds agree with the statement, “I don’t want to share my relationship on social media.” YPulse data also shows more than half (55%) say social media makes it hard to be in a committed relationship because they can see so many other options out there. Some claim social media causes “dissonance and insecurity” in their relationships because the content they’re seeing about others is unrealistic—making them want to show only the best parts, too. That’s why many Gen Z couples are reportedly choosing “quiet” relationships, only posting faceless pictures of their partners or not posting them at all. According to Pinterest, whose userbase is now hugely Gen Z, searches for “city hall elopement” surged over 190% from 2023 to 2024, indicating a move towards private marriages, too. Plus, young creators discussing their preference for “quiet” relationships have racked up tens of thousands of views on TikTok. (CNN)
