McDonald’s is the latest brand facing boycotts.

Jun 26 2025

McDonald’s is the latest brand facing boycotts. Last week, The People’s Union USA (who organized recent boycotts against Target and Walmart) took to social media to call for an “economic blackout” targeting McDonald’s from June 24-30. It comes after the company axed some of its DEI policies in January, including concluding its standard goals for diversity in its senior leadership roles. The demands to end this boycott include “fair taxes, an end to price gouging, real equality and corporate accountability.” McDonald’s has spoken out, saying their “commitment to inclusion remains steadfast,” and the company “pays its fair share of taxes.” Other companies like Target are still feeling effects of boycotts from earlier this year, reporting a decline in sales during the 40-day boycott period, so it seems to be a working move for consumers looking to drive change. But while many Gen Z and Millennial consumers spoke about participating in the Target and Walmart boycotts on socials, YPulse data shows McDonald’s is Gen Z and Millennials favorite fast food chain—so whether this boycott will gain their support is to be seen.
