“I’m a mommy” is the meme of the summer. Earlier this week, YPulse reported on young people’s obsession with the reality dating show Love Island, with watch parties selling out bars all over NYC. Of course, for Gen Z, a major part of the show’s appeal is not only its drama, but its viral meme-ability. The most popular soundbite to come out of the show this season comes from two islanders, Huda and Nic, when Huda reveals to him that she’s “a mommy.” Nic, confused, responds with “Mommy? Mamacita?” and then “Mom of what? A dog?” to which Huda says no, she’s the mother of a “real, human child.” The convo was quickly made into an audio on TikTok, and the whole internet is having a field day with it. Viral videos range from baristas using the sound with the caption “when you find out your work bestie has a kid” to others showing how they would react if their best friend ever told them they were pregnant.
