French Gen Z doesn’t like strong cheese as much as previous gens.

May 28 2025

French Gen Z doesn’t like strong cheese as much as previous gens. A recent study by the OpinionWay Institute found that 9% of French 18-to-24-year-olds do not eat cheeses that have a strong taste, such as blue and unpasteurized cheese, which is almost twice as much as other gens (5%). French Gen Z is -24pts less likely than people over 65-years-old to say they like Camembert (19% vs 43%) and -21pts less likely to enjoy Roquefort (13% vs 34%), a traditional blue goat cheese from southern France. Experts attribute the trend to the lack of early exposure to unpasteurized cheeses in schools, despite this traditional dairy product being a staple in French culture, which they claim affects young people’s taste preferences.
