Roblox is rolling out a new way for players to earn rewards: watching ads. The platform’s new “Rewarded Video ads” will offer perks like in-game currency and power-ups in exchange for watching up to 30-second full-screen ads. These ads, available only to players 13-years-and-older, will start appearing in public games created by users 18-and-up. The move is a part of a bigger partnership with Google, which is rolling out its “Immersive Ads” format on Roblox. Basically, these ads could show up as billboards while players drive through a virtual city or even on a big screen during a virtual football game. And with YPulse’s Gaming Marketing Playbook showing rewards are one of the best way brands can engage Gen Z in virtual worlds, this could be a big opportunity for brands looking to foray into video game advertising.
