Albania is shutting down TikTok for one year to protect young people. Following a tragic incident last November when a teenager was killed after a fight started on TikTok, the Albanian government conducted 1.3K meetings with some 65K parents to better understand the impact of the platform on teens and children. Officials say that most parents were in favor of a complete shutdown the app, over concerns of violence and bullying. Now, the ban is officially in place, and planned to stick for the next 12 months. TikTok has already announced it will work with Albania to increase children’s safety measures too, like tighter parental control and age verification. (CNN)
